Important Facts About Flood Insurance

  • Homeowners Insurance does NOT cover flood damage.
  • All 50 states have experienced floods or flash floods in the last 5 years.
  • 25% of flooding occurs outside areas formally designated as being flood prone (Special Flood Hazard Areas).
  • In high-risk areas, there is at least a 1 in 4 chance of flooding during a 30-year mortgage.
  • Just a few inches of water from a flood can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
  • Flood insurance is relatively inexpensive. The average premium for $100,000 coverage is about $300 per year.
  • It normally takes 30 days for a policy to take effect. So it’s important to buy insurance before a storm approaches.

Are You Truly Ready for the Next Hurricane Season?

Now that hurricane season is over, are you properly covered? We were all very lucky that Hurricane Matthew passed us.  It’s the perfect time to make sure you have the appropriate coverage for the upcoming hurricane season. Hurricane Season is from June 1st – November 30th.
  • It is very important to do an annual review of your policy and coverage limits to make sure everything is current and accurate.
  • Please contact us for a thorough policy review! Also it’s good to be aware of your deductibles and dwelling coverage, especially for windstorm. We can take the time to go over your entire policy with you.
  • As Hurricane Matthew approached Florida, we received many phone calls from customers wanting to increase their policy coverage. At that time it was too late to make any changes. Insurance carriers are smart and don’t allow changes when a storm is already approaching. Many carries even have a 30 day waiting period.
  • It’s best to be prepared for the possible hurricanes & many times tornados that go along with them far in advance.
  • Flood coverage is also important to consider since Homeowners Policies do NOT cover Flood Damage.
